Classic Mold for Incense Beads
Because handmade scented beads lose moisture during the natural air-drying process, the finished size is usually 2–3mm smaller than the mold. For example, a 10mm mold may result in a finished bead diameter of about 7–8mm. We recommend choosing a mold that is 2–3mm larger than your desired finished bead size.
The final shrinkage rate is not fixed. It may vary depending on water content, powder texture, kneading, drying environment, and bead design. Adding more water, using a more absorbent botanical scent powder, or drying the beads too quickly may lead to more noticeable shrinkage. Thorough kneading can help release trapped air inside the paste and support a more stable finished shape. Patterned beads and smooth beads may also shrink slightly differently during drying.
