Because handmade incense beads lose moisture during the natural air-drying process, the finished size is usually 2-3mm smaller than the mold (e.g., using a 10mm mold will result in a bead diameter of approximately 7-8mm). Therefore, please ensure you purchase a mold that is 2-3mm larger than your expected finished bead size. Since each bracelet is handcrafted, the final shrinkage rate is not a fixed constant. It is affected by multiple variables during the bead-making process: first is the water content and raw material characteristics—the more water added when mixing the paste, or the stronger the water absorption of the incense powder itself, the more obvious the shrinkage will be after moisture evaporation. Second is the degree of air exhaustion—the longer and more forceful the kneading, the cleaner the internal air is expelled, resulting in less shrinkage. Furthermore, the drying environment (the speed of moisture evaporation) and the bead design (the physical structural differences between patterned beads and smooth beads) will also cause variations in shrinkage.
